Keep a list of what you refuse to build.

Every quarter, Photoroom’s founders write down features they won’t work on. Basically an anti-roadmap. By explicitly deciding what’s out of scope, they protect focus and move faster on what actually matters: commerce photography.

This also clarifies positioning. Photoroom enhances real photos instead of generating fake ones. They could build full AI image generation like everyone else. They chose not to. That constraint became their differentiator. Small businesses need authentic product shots that build trust, not obviously synthetic images.

Saying no is a strategy, but only if you write it down. Otherwise you’ll forget and drift toward whatever shiny feature a loud customer requested last week.

Every quarter, ask: what are we definitely not building? Put it in writing. Share it with the team. The anti-roadmap keeps you honest about who you’re for and what you actually do.
